As well as providing all of the usual general practice services, there will be a focus on bringing health and wellbeing to people with busy, active lives who cannot necessarily always find time to attend their own GP practice.

Worcestershire Primary Care Trust (PCT) is now working with the Elgar Healthcare to develop new ways of providing healthcare services across the county, which could include nurses going out to community centres.

Dr Adam Thompson, who was a founding director of Elgar Healthcare, said: “My co-director Dr Charlie Harris and I are delighted that the PCT has given us the opportunity to work with them to deliver this new service for Worcestershire."

Elgar Healthcare Limited

is a company founded by local GPs to manage and run a variety of community based healthcare services.

Supporting Acorns

Rather than sending out Christmas cards we sent out a Christmas email message. Instead of buying cards, the company made a donation to Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Welcome to Elgar Healthcare Limited
Elgar Healthcare Limited was formed in May 2008. At the company’s head are three Directors, 2 of whom are full-time NHS GPs in their own practices:
  • Dr Charlie Harris, Berwyn House Surgery, Shrubbery Avenue, Worcester
  • Dr Steve Grant, Abbey Medical Centre, Evesham
  • Malcolm Sampson, Worcester Walk-in Centre Manager

The company is also supported from investment by 44 shareholders who are all either GPs or Practice Managers in South Worcestershire. The company’s overall ethos is to provide ethical methods of business providing local delivery of healthcare services by people who understand the health needs of the local population without unsettling the existing health economy, but actually to support and enhance it.

In 2009 Elgar Healthcare won the bid for the new Worcester Walk-In Health Centre in Worcester which opened on 12 August 2009. The unit is keen to build upon the high quality of general practice already delivered in Worcester and is open 8am to 8pm every day of the week, 365 days of the year and is open to registered and non-registered patients alike.

Elgar Healthcare has also established a GP locum service which is available to GP surgeries not only throughout Worcestershire, but also our neighbouring counties of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Shropshire and Warwickshire.

Elgar Healthcare has also provided GP ward round cover to the Timberdine Nursing and Rehabilitation Unit since July 2011.
